Forbidden Cities is a start-up independent production company based in Kent, UK, founded in 2024 by Fernando González Mitjáns and Daniella Rice.

We craft documentaries, television, and digital productions that bridge languages and continents, with a particular focus on stories (and voices) in Latin America.

Together, our previous credits include documentary films and series for international broadcasters and streaming platforms, such as BBC, Netflix, Disney+, HBOMax.

ABOUT US
Forbidden Cities is a Kent-based story incubator and production house founded by Fernando González Mitjáns and Daniella Rice in 2024. We develop and produce engaging, uplifting stories from Brazil and Latin America for global audiences.
Individually, we are editorially minded producers with a proven track record developing and delivering international productions. We have worked with Oscar and BAFTA‑winning companies, shaping and delivering premium nonfiction for Netflix, NatGeo, HBOMax, VICE, BBC, Channel 4, Viaplay and others.
Latin America is our creative home. While our work spans multiple regions, we specialise in developing and producing stories from across the continent -- especially Brazil, where our experience, access and local network are unmatched.
We believe in collaborative, people‑first filmmaking. Our approach has helped us build trust‑based relationships with contributors, institutions and local teams, and has earned us a reputation for sensitive access, editorial rigour and cultural fluency.

WHAT WE DO
As Forbidden Cities, we specialise in originating and growing original IP from seed to commission and production. We have developed story ideas for, and helped secure commissions from Netflix, BBC, Globoplay and National Geographic.
As leading Brazilian producers, we also provide fixing services in the country. We are experienced and well connected across the regions international productions most often work in - the Amazon, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and São Paulo. We are able to support productions with everything from permits and local crew hire to unlocking sensitive access, on‑screen talent, and distributor outreach.
